Essentially Honest Review: New Curlsmith Protein Products Part 2
If you haven’t read my first review on the new Curlsmith STRENGTH line, covering their Protein Bond Salve, Feather-Light Protein Cream, and Bouncy Strength Volume Foam, find that here.
To reiterate, if you have any sort of textured hair then you know that there is a delicate balance between a good hair day and the hot mess express. That balance is that of moisture and protein.
I was excited to hear that one of my favorite brands was coming out with a protein based line of stylers and treatment. When Curlsmith launched those products I was blown away by the results. So you can imagine how stoked I was to hear they were coming out with even more protein products for their STRENGTH line!
This is 100% NOT a sponsored review. All thoughts, opinions and feelings are entirely my own.
Core Strength Shampoo (12.0 oz): a protein-enriched gentle shampoo suitable for frequent washes. Its sulphate-free cleansing system gently melts away dirt and build-up, leaving the scalp clean and refreshed.
Multi-Tasking Conditioner (8.0 oz): a protein-enriched 3-in-1 moisturizer that hydrates your hair while making it look stronger and more elastic. We developed our Multi-Tasking Conditioner to be lightweight in texture but packed with moisturizing ingredients, so that depending on application it can work as a rinse-out conditioner, a deep conditioner or a leave-in conditioner.
Shape Up Aqua Gel (8.0 oz): a protein-enriched styling gel that provides light hold and weightless definition for all curl types. It is our lightest styling gel yet. Its weightless texture is super easy to apply on the hair, ensuring it can coat all sections effortlessly. It provides outstanding definition without weighing the hair down or compromising on volume.
Curlsmith is even kind enough to break down how to find out your hair’s protein needs.
“Generally speaking, the more damaged and higher porosity your hair is, the more protein-based products you should use. To discover your hair’s porosity, spray some water on a strand of dry, clean, product-free hair.
Low Porosity: The water will form droplets on the surface of the hair, without absorbing. Use a protein-rich product from Curlsmith Strength Recipes every 2-3 wash days.
Medium Porosity: The water will form droplets on the surface of the hair and then absorb inside. Use at least one protein-rich product from Curlsmith Strength Recipes every other wash day.
High Porosity: The water will instantly absorb inside the hair. Use several protein-rich products from Curlsmith Strength Recipes every wash day.”
Triples as a leave-in conditioner or deep conditioner
SHAPE UP AQUA GEL –
What We Didn't Love
CORE STRENGTH SHAMPOO –
Didn’t have any negative feelings about it
MULTI TASKING CONDITIONER –
I wish it had a better slip
Took a bit of work to detangle
SHAPE UP AQUA GEL –
Their lightest hold so I lost a lot of my definition overnight
Yay or Nay?
I’m going to try the Multi-Tasking Conditioner as both a leave in and deep conditioner to see if I like it more, with a stronger cleanser to see if I like it more and I definitely need a stronger hold gel to keep my definition throughout the week, but other than that, this is an obvious YAY for me! My hair already loves protein but knowing that I need to be mindful of the balance, they formulated this line to where you can use these products every wash day (within reason) and not have to worry about protein overload! I probably won’t use all 3 products at once again, but I’ll keep mixing in other moisturizing products that I know my hair loves!
